THE BEAUTY OF THE DAYLILY IS TO DIE FOR

This remarkable flowering plant is called a daylily, it is from the genus Hemerocallis, which is a member of the family Asphodelaceae. While it’s common name is daylily, it is in fact not a lily at all. Gardening enthusiasts and horticulturalists have long bred daylily species for their intensely vibrant beauty. The phrase, “It’s beauty is to die for.” is fully relevant in the case of the daylily, as the name “daylily” is an accurate name for it; since each bloom survives exactly one day, as it opens in the morning and as the last rays of the sun fade from the twilight sky, so too does its life fade and die. However, the flowering stalk continues to produce new flowers for up to another three weeks.
