Here the blossom is considered a vegetable that it can be cooked as the main vegetable in some fish and meat dishes. That is one advantage if you have a banana plant that you not only get fruits but also the blossom.
Usually the blossom is sliced and soaked in saline water to take away the acrid sap. The soaking can be for 1 hour or more. For fish dishes, the sliced blossom is cooked ahead of the fish by 5 minutes in the pot. For meat dishes the blossom is mixed to the pot about 10 minutes before the dish is cooked.
