When walking for a distance the seniors are advised to stop once in a while to regain their energy. Unless the purpose is to sweat it out for losing weight, maybe, then it is all right. But if it is simple walking for something else then rest every half a kilometer of walking.
Seniors have brittle bones and rusty joints that you should not force yourself in physical activities. It is good if you are used to it but for a simple walking for an errand then do not abuse your feet.
