The usual propagation of plants and tree is by the use of seeds. Especially in fruits, the seeds is the most common and some people do not even know that plants can be propagated by other means.
Propagating by cuttings is one of the usual means for some plants, particularly the decoverative plants that can multiply by mere cuttings. That is the cutting of a branch and planting it on the ground. For some other plants, marcotting is another means. That is wrapping a portion of the desired branch with a potting medium to make it grow roots. When there are sufficient roots then the branch is cut and transplanted. The runner, as can be seen in the picture are for the herbs like mint which is very productive with the runners. The strawberry is also propagated by runners.
