One of the things I stumbled onto while learning about being in the present surprised me a bit. It said that living in the present requires remembering and celebrating the past. It seems like a bit of an oxymoron. I pondered a bit some ideas about remembering the past and bringing it into the moment.
I decided that we have five senses for a reason and I went with smell. My Mom baked fresh bread. So mentally I took a little trip. I closed my eyes and focused until I could actually remember that smell. It was “real” for me right in that moment. I opened my eyes and focused on the next task with more clarity.
I am going to try this a couple times today and see if it stops the rambling and brings me back to the moment.
