When a plant out grows the container in which it grows it needs to be re-potted. It would also be good to re-pot some plants after a couple of years to give it some fresh soil and life.
How to re-pot plants?
When you re-pot a plant do it in the evenings so it has time to time to adjust during the cooler part of the day.
If you are a newbie and you are trying to re-pot your houseplant, chose a pot that is just one or two inches bigger than the present one. Huge containers mean to much watering and death of plants.
If you are new to gardening never remove all the soil from the root ball, just pry out the soil from around the root ball ensuring that you do not damage roots. Using a blunt fork helps.
Leaving the plant in a bowl of water, just enough to cover the roots. This would help reduce transplant shock. Let it stand for a couple of hours before you actually re-pot it.
Ensure that you use the right kind of soil that meets your plants needs.
Re-potted plants need to be in the shade for a few days before being gradually shifted into a sunny spot.
Water the plants everyday in warm weather when it is freshly re-potted.

Very useful tips! Since you mentioned anturium in your previous post, do you think I could use orchid soil for anturiums? I can’t find soil that’s specifically for anturiums, but I saw that some brand sells soil that’s supposed to work for both orchids and anturiums. I have been wondereing whether it’s different from the usual orchid soil.
Yes, anthuriums do well in orchid soil, they are epiphytes too like orchids. they also do well with the same kind of fertilizers too.
That’s awesome, thank you for the information!
You are so welcome my dear.
