If you view Christmas as a celebration of the birth of Christ then it seems fitting to use the life of Christ as an example of how you can celebrate. Christ spent his entire life teaching and serving others. There is much service I can do inside my home, today I wanted to step out of that circle. The nursing home is relatively close and so I headed that direction.
I stopped at the reception desk and said I have a couple hours, how can I be of service? I am not a stranger there and it only took her a minute.
“Delores is agitated because she cannot read some letters she has in her top drawer, could you read them to her?”
I spent the next three hours reading letters from her son who was serving in the military overseas. He was so thoughtful in his letters. He faithfully wrote once a week. I read for two hours. She would drift off and I would just keep reading aloud.
It was a perfect way to celebrate Christmas Everyday.
