The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 gave soccer fans around the world plenty of action over the last four days. The quarterfinals will provide plenty of intrigue during the middle of this week.
On Wednesday, the first match will pit Senegal against Benin. Benin has pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the tournament by defeating Morocco by penalty kicks. Benin will have to pull off another upset if they want to advance. The next match of Wednesday’s doubleheader will be between Nigeria and South Africa. South Africa pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament by defeating the tournament host Egypt 1-0.
On Thursday, the first match will be Ivory Coast against Algeria. This match will be the marquee match-up in these quarterfinals as both teams are heavy hitters. The last match of the quarterfinals will be between Madagascar and Tunisia. Madagascar is the cinderella team, while Tunisia is in the quarterfinals even though they have not won a match in the entire tournament.
