Also known as “Ruru!” found on Tiritiri Matangi. All the birds disappear if it comes out during the day. Its a predator.
I saw my first in the Blue Lakes Holiday Park in Rotorua at night. When it flies its silent, its our New Zealand Owl.

This MorePork is no European Owl, it says, “More Pork!” at night. Im not sure what a European owl would be like to hear it talk.
