In actual fact, the true flower is just the round bit at the very centre. Those four things looking like petals are in fact modified leaves. Because the flower itself is so unnoticeable (to bees as well as to us!), the plant has to make a ‘pretend flower’ or the bees just wouldn’t come, and the plant could not reproduce 😮
