You should definitely throw away the plastic plate and use ceramic or metal instead.
Since you gave a suggestion about that, I have started doing it. Now he eats porcelain dishes, but what about the milk bottles and teats?
They should be made of silicone. Just avoid simple plastic plates and everything will be alright. One of my cats, Quilt, suffered from that allergy, as a kitten, but she is quite well now, even if she eats from the plastic bowl, sometimes. 🙂
