Part II, we often went to French Lick to stay at the hotel. For many years we also went a little past French Lick in the summer spending a week with my family on Lake Patoka. Lake Patoka is a human-made lake in Southern Indiana. It is part of the Army Corp of Engineers flood project. That project resulted in some fairly large lakes in Southern Indiana that reduced the impact of the creeks and rivers regarding flooding. Not, that the hills were ever covered, but if you didn’t live on the hill, you were in the valley, and they often flooded.
French Lick and West Baden are sister cities, and one of the coolest things, of course, is the Rotunda of the West Baden hotel.
The next set of pictures comes from the converted Cincinnati Ohio central train station (We spent a couple of days in French Lick and then headed back over to our old stomping grounds in Cincinnati Ohio). Central Station, which was neither central nor very easy to get to in Cincinnati was converted from a train station to a museum. The Museum was finished after we had left Cincinnati in 1999 so we made the trek over for a day of sightseeing.
We enjoyed the museum. The funny thing about moving away from Cincinnati was the things we ended up missing later. I missed walking along the Serpentine Wall (on the Ohio River) and the park they have around that. I missed going to Montgomery Inn for ribs (oh I still those ribs). We didn’t go back to Cincinnati after leaving as often as we probably should. With twins, we were moving on to a new phase of life. But the trip to the then new Natural History Museum is one time we did go back.
