At the Tybee Island Lighthouse near Savannah, Georgia you can climb the lighthouse spiral stairs to the top and go out on the circular viewing area outside at the top. You cannot however go up to the top level with the huge glass Fresnel Lens that is still operational. There was a slight gap below the lens where you could peek up and see it and all its curved glass prismatic glory.
The Fresnel lens, which is common in lighthouses across the world, is indeed a remarkable invention. It allows a relatively low-powered light source to be visible to shipping many miles out at sea.
Good information here, you thank you
