NFL Draft 2020 Review: Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders will begin the 2020 season in a new city after moving from Oakland to Las Vegas.  Moving to a new city means that they must market their team to new fans.  Let’s see who the Raiders picked in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Round 1, Pick 12:  Henry Ruggs III – WR – Alabama (5’11”, 188 lbs).  Speed is why Ruggs III was the first wide receiver picked in the NFL Draft.  Ruggs III ran a 4.27 40-yard dash at the combine.  He also returns kicks as well.

Round 1, Pick 19:  Damon Arnette – CB – Ohio State (6’0″, 195 lbs).  Arnette has the size to contend with tall receivers as witnessed by his 8 pass break-ups last season.

Round 3, Pick 16:  Lynn Bowden – WR – Kentucky (5’11”, 204 lbs).  Bowden had to play quarterback last season due to injuries on the team, but he still led the team in receiving.  His versatility moved him up to the third round because he can line up at any skill position on the field.  He also returns kicks as well.

Round 3, Pick 17:  Bryan Edwards – WR – South Carolina (6’3″, 212 lbs).  He dropped to the third round due to injury, but he was one of the best possession receivers in college football last season.  He averaged a little over six receptions per game last season.

Round 3, Pick 36:  Tanner Muse – S – Clemson (6’2″, 227 lbs).  Muse should see some time at strong safety due to being a strong tackler (6 tackles for loss last season) and due to being strong in coverage (4 interceptions).  His size helps him guard tight ends in coverage.

Round 4, Pick 3:  John Simpson – G – Clemson (6’4″, 321 lbs).  Simpson will add depth to the interior of the Raiders offensive line at guard.

Round 4, Pick 33:  Amik Robertson – CB – Louisiana Tech (5’8″, 187 lbs).  Robertson will compete to see some time as a slot corner or a nickel corner.  Although he is smaller than most wide receivers, he led the NCAA in pass break-ups last season with 16 along with 5 interceptions.

Grade:  The Raiders made plenty of trades to move up in this draft because they need to win now to be a draw in the new market.  Fortunately, they found some nice complementary players that could cause the Raiders to improve on their 7-9 record from last season.  I give them a B-.
