The Denver Broncos finished with a 7-9 record last season due to a vastly improved offense. QB Drew Lock will look to avoid a sophomore slump this season in order for the Broncos to move towards being a contender again in the National Football League (NFL). Denver had ten picks in the NFL Draft, so let’s take a look at how they used them.
Round 1, Pick 15: Jerry Jeudy – WR – Alabama (6’1″, 193 lbs). Jeudy was the best route-runner in college football as shown by his stats from last season (77 receptions, 1,163 yds, 10 TD’s). Jeudy will see plenty of time in the wide receiver rotation.
Round 2, Pick 14: K.J. Hamler – WR – Penn State (5’9″, 178 lbs). Hamler should see some time at the slot receiver position and as a returner. The Broncos have doubled down on fixing their depth at wide receiver.
Round 3, Pick 13: Michael Ojemudia – CB – Iowa (6’1″, 200 lbs). Ojemudia is a physical corner with good ball skills (3 INT, 9 pass breakups). He is also good at helping out in the run game (52 tackles). He will definitely see time on the field in the cornerback rotation.
Round 3, Pick 19: Lloyd Cushenberry – C – LSU (6’3″, 312 lbs). Cushenberry will compete for the starting spot at center. Whether he wins the spot or not, he definitely adds depth to the interior of the offensive line.
Round 3, Pick 31: McTelvin Agim – DT – Arkansas (6’3″, 309 lbs). Agim will look to bring pressure up the middle as a part of the defensive line rotation.
Round 4, Pick 12: Albert Okwuegbunam – TE – Missouri (6’5″, 258 lbs). Okwuegbunam gives the Broncos a solid double threat at TE along with Noah Fant. Okwuegbunam and Lock were teammates two seasons ago, so the familiarity will help him this upcoming season.
Round 5, Pick 33: Justin Strnad – LB – Wake Forest (6’3″, 238 lbs). Strnad dropped a little in this draft due to a season-ending injury, but he adds depth to the LB corps for this season. His versatility will help because he is able to play at either inside or outside linebacker.
Round 6, Pick 2: Netane Muti – G – Fresno State (6’3″, 215 lbs). Muti also dropped in the draft due to injuries. He adds more interior depth on the offensive line.
Round 7, Pick 38: Tyrie Cleveland – WR – Florida (6’2″, 209 lbs). Cleveland will look to make the team as a backup wide receiver or on special teams.
Round 7, Pick 40: Derrek Tuszka – DE – North Dakota State (6’4″, 251 lbs). Tuszka will be given time to develop behind one of the best pass rushing teams in the NFL.
Grade: B+. The Broncos really addressed their needs in this draft.
