Douglas Lima was able to knock out Michael “Venom” Page (MVP) in the semifinals of the Welterweight Grand Prix at Bellator 211. This KO was Page’s first loss in MMA. He is known as one of the best point-style karate experts in the world due to his size while fighting at 170 lbs.
The problem with point-style karate in regards to MMA is that the fight is reset in the middle whenever someone is hit. In this fight, Page punches Lima. Lima was quick to react with a kick to the leg. Since Page was not used to being hit back immediately, Page buckled to the mat. Then, Lima cracked Page with the final punch for the KO. Lima will fight in the Welterweight Grand Prix final against the winner of the Rory McDonald/Neiman Gracie fight that will take place in June at Bellator 222.
When I caught this on my Twitter I thought it was Anderson Silva. Pretty sick how he timed the other guy
Yeah, it clearly showed that Lima had practiced that counter kick to the leg during his training camp because that kick was perfect. I didn’t post the video with Silva almost getting his leg kicked off because it looked like it was broken again like when he lost the belt to Weidman.
I seen that trending on my Twitter, and I literally thought to myself “Damn! I thought Anderson retired”. Kills me that these guys let it get to that level by letting the sport retire them.
