Belarus Premier League Week 4 Sunday highlights

Although we are living in some abnormal times, some sense of normalcy occurred in the Belarus Premier League on Sunday with powerhouses BATE and Dinamo Brest winning decisively.

BATE Borisov went on the road and destroyed FC Minsk 3-0 in the first match of the tripleheader.  BATE struck in the 26th minute with some nice combination passing that led to an open shot on goal for Stanislau Dragun.  BATE was not done in the first half with another score in the 35th minute.  BATE scored this goal off of a counterattack with a cross sent in to Anton Saroka for an easy poach.

BATE did not stop attacking in the second half.  Their last goal was a corner kick that somehow curved in from Pavel Nekhajchik.  BATE moved up to 7th place while Minsk drops back to 10th place, but both teams have six points in the standings.

Smolevichy-STI and Shakhtyor played to a scoreless draw in the second match of the day.  I will not post that video because neither team scored.  With the tie, Smolevichy jumps out of the cellar into 15th place with 2 points.  Shakhtyor stays in twelfth place with five points.

The last match between Dinamo Brest and Isloch was definitely a barn burner.  Both teams had about three chances apiece to score in the first ten minutes because going for goal was the only option for them.  Isloch broke through with a marvellous rebound shot from Dmitri Komarovskiy in the 39th minute.

However, Dinamo Brest scored right before half when a free kick deflected off of the crossbar.  The goalkeeper attempted to block the kick, but the ball went off of the crossbar and back into play instead of going out of bounds.  The ball bounced high in the air to Gaby Junior Kiki, who headed the ball in for the scored to be deadlocked at 1-1 at halftime.

Dinamo Brest finally took over in the second half when Artem Milevskiy scored off of a corner kick that was deflected three different times before going into goal.  Brest secured another goal in extra time off of a penalty kick due to a hand ball in order to win 3-1 at home.  The defending champs are now in 3rd place with seven points while Isloch remains at six points with two losses in a row in 8th place.
