Sunday has brought about a little bit of separation in the Belarus Premier League table with four out of the top five teams playing in a triple header. For three of these teams, things worked out quite well.
In the first match, Slutsk (FK Slutsksakhar) jumped into sole possession of first place with a 3-2 home victory over last-place team FC Belshina Bobruisk. Slutsk pounced on the lead quickly by putting the first two goals into the net. Both goals were scored off of counterattacks. However, Belshina did not give up and made the score 2-1 right before halftime with a counterattack of their own.
Then, Belshina tied the score up in the 52nd minute from a header by Leonid Kovel. The score remained knotted up until late in the match when Belshina defender Nikita Rochev obtained a red card in 85th minute. Three minutes later, Umar Bala scored his second goal of the match to put Slutsk into first place. Somewhere in Belarus, a feminist is smiling because Slutsk is on top. FEMEN and NOW are cheering. Nevertheless, 492 fans saw their team jump into first place.
In the second match, Torpedo BelAZ (FC Torpedo Zhodino) and Ruh Brest played to a scoreless draw in Zhodino. The first place hopes of Torpedo were actually torpedoed as they now sit in 3rd place. The point gained by Ruh Brest moves them up to 12th place in the Belarus Premier League. Unfortunately, 293 people risked their lives to see nobody score.
The draw allowed for FK Isloch Minsk to take advantage by winning 2-0 at home against FC Vitebsk. Isloch scored their first goal on a penalty kick in the 37th minute after a goalkeeping blunder by Artem Soroko. He was caught outside of the box attempting to clear a ball, but missed it. The ball was about to be kicked in, but the Vitebsk defender fouled Isloch forward Momo Yansane in order to avoid a certain goal.
Nevertheless, Yansane would not be denied because he scored in the second half off of a well-timed run. The win put Isloch into second place, while the loss dropped Vitebsk back to fifth place. Although this important match was in the Belarus capital, this game had the least amount of fans at 273.
