Maple Callas Borer (Synanthedon acerni) (2008-07-09 13-50-31)
Although this looks like a nasty creature that would sting or bite you, it’s just a harmless moth.
The photo was taken in Ontonagon Co., MI (Upper Peninsula) using a Panasonic FZ50 with a Canon 250D (+4) multi-element close-up lens. No post-processing was done.Family Sesiidae : Subfamily Sesiinae : Synanthedon acerni

It does look more like it belongs with flies and bees than with moths, but I guess looks aren’t everything.
When I took the photo, I wasn’t sure what it was.
i don’t like this bird
I thought it was interesting. It shows the diversity.
I would be afraid of it, just for the shape. I have never seen one, in pictures or anywhere. Great find and click there.
My first thought when I saw it was that it was some kind of bee. This was the only time I’ve seen one in real life.
True, it looks like a fuzzy wasp.
