Black-crowned night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax).
During the vacation I was on, I came across a colony of black-crowned night heron.
In other words – I photographed the kindergarten on this year’s hatchery 🙂
The first picture shows 5 young birds, and the second – 20!
I asked my ornithological friends to identify the birds because young birds are difficult to identify (at least from me).
Here is a video of where they just stood…
How cute! I had never heard of a night heron! I bet we have those here in the south since we have other types of herons.
In principle, they are distributed worldwide without Australia and Antarctica 🙂
George, that is good information to know!
Do you know why it is called a night heron?
In general, most birds do not see at dusk. Such are the other species of herons. These night herons hunt at dusk and have larger pupils. Hence their name.
Thank you for the knowledge.
