These photos were taken along the Lake Superior coast just west of the town of Ontonagon in Upper Peninsula Michigan (Ontonagon County), The area was next to some rental cabins and well-used so the birds, and one of their parents which was nearby, were not concerned by the human presence.
In both cases I used a Panasonic DMC-FZ50 camera with an Olympus TCON-17 tele-extender to take the picture giving an effective focal length of 720mm. The camera was handheld.

Juvenile Bald Eagles (2007-07-14 16-35-03a)
I used ACDSee Ultimate 10.2 to adjust the lighting and boost the contrast. The parent bird was not too far away when I took this photo. It didn't seem worried about my presence, probably due to the heavy foot traffic on this stretch of beach.
