This Chapter is the culmination of the torture inflicted on Winston Smith.
From the beginning of Part III, Winston has been arrested and subjected to torture. It seems evident that it has always been the plan of O’Brien to destroy Winston Smith.Winston did nothing; O’Brien had seen him, spied on him, and chosen him for a victim.To torture Winston, who know nothing, was pointless, yet, O’Brien happily proceeded.Now, in the infamous Room 101 the final stage of torture will take place. Here, Winston will be destroyed from within.
