Chant and Be Happy: The Power of Mantra Meditation is a small booklet published by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust. This small book by Srila Prabhupada talks about the Hare Krishna Mahamantra and the benefits of chanting it. The book also includes some exclusive conversations between George Harrison & John Lennon with Srila Prabhupada.
This small book serves as a good introduction about the Hare Krishna Movement. It is an interesting account of the history of the Hare Krishna Movement and how it rose to popularity within a few decades. It’s amazing to see how a group of disillusioned, young hippies were transformed into vibrant, spiritual people just by chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra.
The book is an easy and short read which will answer many of your spiritual queries. It serves as an introduction to spirituality and chanting. The benefits of chanting are many fold. You have to chant to experience the bliss.
This was one of the first few books I read when I started going to ISKCON temple. I was intrigued by the title and now after two years of regular chanting, I can say with experience that chanting indeed makes like beautiful and blissful. So chant the Holy Names of the Lord and BE HAPPY!
Yes, I believe such chanting can be beneficial in one’s spiritual development too.
Love is the same today and tomorrow, but your chanting must change over time to match the vibrations in you, meeting love, as you grow in that love too.
This is why as we increase in our consciousness, new words to chant must be found, as there is a different word for you for each level of consciousness that you arise too.
Stay with the one chant word, and you end up stabilised on that same level for too many years.
When you feel the power of the word waning, change it immediately, to a new word that will then come to you in your meditations or dreams, because you are ready for it to come, as in the old credo, when you are ready the mantra/master appears.
My thoughts here more apply to our own personal mantra, than to group chanting of specific mantras.
This one is my favourite! I love meditation and spiritual teaching! I love psychological books! I’m gonna check this one! Thanks a million for the suggestion! I loved your post!
