The Wrong Choice – Part 2

Yvette claimed that Mrs. Viker’s dog bit her son. Mrs. Vicker’s didn’t bother to argue. She didn’t mention that Yvette’s son was on her side of the fence. She paid the medical bill.

In a week, Yvette’s cousin was arrested. As Mrs. Vicker was a lawyer, Yvette and her relatives ran next door for help. Mrs. Vicker looked at Yvette, and laughed.

Yvette’s cousin got to spend sometime in custody.

No one needed to mention that because of the dog bite quarrel, Mrs. Vicker would not lift a finger to help Yvette or anyone associated with her.

The decision to make an enemy of Mrs. Vicker was Yvette’s, and she and her family would live with it.

Why she had done it, why, knowing where her son was when he was bitten, should have made her more petitioner than avenger.

Mrs. Vicker was more than happy to pay the bill, for that meant that Yvette and her large and raucous family could never ever ask her for help.

Mrs. Vicker chose to pay the bill to make herself exempt from every and all requests for help from Yvette and her family.

That was her choice.
