And Comes the Fourth Generation – part 32

Van  Barnes, the Grandson of the once high and might Barnes Clan, went to Miriam House to speak to Selma Rashford Grindley who had been hired to ‘manage’  Miriam House.

He’d seen her catatonic in the hospital, but now, she seemed better, talking about getting in a wheelchair, and being able to do her job.

Selma had an authoritarian way of speaking. She made veiled threats about going public if they attempted to throw her out.

Van spoke to Nurse Jean who had been hired by Joe,  Selma’s son.  He was told that Selma couldn’t be moved at this time, she was in a lot of pain.

Not knowing what to do, Van rang up a few Board Members and they called a special meeting.

After all ends of the argument were canvassed, that is paying for a hospice or putting her on the road it was decided to stop paying her salary, leave her where she was for the next month or so.

Fran Alman, the Office Manager,  would do two jobs, Selma and her own.
