Day 2 of Spring Garden Show 2018: Succulents

Friday, 4.27.18

When I entered the Crystal Court wing of the South Coast Plaza mall, I noticed that the ten outdoor living space models had ribbons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as Participating ribbon. While chatting with some people, I noticed that the ribbons were given out last night. I took some snapshots of the ribbon winners so that I can later add them in my video.

At 11 am, I decided to check out the Succulent Centerpiece seminar at one of the seminar rooms. But, first, I browsed inside the William Sonoma store, sampling the Nepresso espresso, in which I noticed that these big machines froth well, as well as doing some research. I also noticed the metal steam basket, in which I have the same one, but from Mother’s Market. I decided to ask one of the sales people how to properly use it because I used it wrong last time, in which my sweet potato ended up being boiled instead of steamed. The instruction sounded easy. I just need to add a little bit water at the bottom and use a pot with a lid.

Succulents grow best in morning sun and afternoon shade. If you want to use a patio container, then make sure there is a drainage hole in the pot. Add soil, and water your plant for every 3 weeks. Make sure the plant is placed in bright light area, but not hot sunny locations. The perfect plants to use for a patio container include Euphorbia Hybrid Blackbird, Crassula Ovata Mini Jade, Sedum Lemon Ball, Euphorbia Tirucalli Sticks on Fire, Aenonium Jolly Green 3-stem, and Aenonium Jolly Cup 3-stem.

If you want to place your succulent inside a Mercury Glass Bowl, then fill bowl before placing plant inside the bowl. Place the plant in bright light location but not hot sun location. The plants to use include Echeveria Blue Spur, Echeveria Green Pearl 3, and Sedum Pachyclodas Blue Mini rosette.

If you want to place your succulent in driftwood for a rustic décor piece, then, you will also need glue and craft moss. The perfect plants include Aloe Sunset, Sempervivum Sunset, Echeveria Lipstick, Crassula Tom Thumb, and Aeonium Kiwi.

Supplies include the right soil, which is a cactus mix or any well-draining potting soil. Other must-have supplies include Craft moss, Tacky glue, glue gun, small paint brush, and chopstick.
