Touring around the Frick Museum of Art at the Frick Estate in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania I saw some spectacular furniture. Here was a complex “Commode Bombe” (no, not that kind of commode) by Roger Vandercruse French 1760. How can a piece of furniture be in such good shape from the time of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson? The marquetry is Tulipwood and Kingwood. The top is Breccian Marble. The bronze decoration mounts often used by the French makers were gold plated.
We purchased a house that was filled with antiques. We were lucky.
Wow, spectacular indeed! I really love this one, it’s a true piece of art.
