Hawaii Five-0 – I Hulu Pu

“I Hulu Pu” is episode sixteen of season two of Hawaii Five-0 and it opens with an ambulance, then a scene of Lori washing blood from her hands, before going to ask a nurse how McGarrett is (the impression is given that’s he’s been badly injured, although we don’t see him, which gives the further impression that this is going to be a mistaken impression). Then she is confronted by the governor over her failure to inform him about what was happening in the investigation, and the impression being given here is that her job is on the line. Then the episode goes back 18 hours (something I think is really overused these days).

Five-0 is at a fund-raiser at the governor’s request when a woman is found dead at the bottom of a laundry chute. Should could have been a guest at the fund-raiser, or at one of two weddings that are also going on. McGarrett orders that the hotel be shut down; the governor refuses to allow it. Which is a problem; the entire hotel is a crime scene and possible suspects are free to leave. The episode goes back and forwards between the events in the past and what is happening in the present. Whatever happened in the past has caused an international incident.

Just what is going on is not clear for a long time. When the woman is identified, why she was at a charity dinner she couldn’t afford is unknown, nor is why she was murdered.

The camera work is also often deliberately jerky, which is a bit annoying.

This episode’s name means “The Reckoning”.
