Tapestry of Our Lady of Skrpjela – a testimony of love, faith and art … Montenegro Ja

Jacinita Kunić embroidered tapestry on her own hair for 25 years, waiting for her husband, a sailor. Today, the tapestry is located in the church of Our Lady of the Rocks, in Perast, Montenegro, testifying to patience, longing and dedication. According to some legends, this Perast woman worked so hard on the tapestry that she eventually went blind. It is not known whether her husband returned from the trip, after those 25 years. She made it with a needle, using seven different materials. The base is a special type of Japanese silk, which she decorated with gold and silver threads, and multicolored Chinese silk. From the cloth she used damask which was then highly prized, then multicolored pearls, and on the heads of angels, Our Lady and Jesus she puts her own hair.
