Love ItLove It

It used to be the longest bridge in the world

The bridge at Kladovo (eastern Serbia) was the largest in the world for 1,000 years. He merged with Upper Mezia and Dacia (today’s Serbia and Romania),  two provinces of the Roman Empire.  It was officially opened in the 105th year during the Second Campaign of the Roman Emperor Trajan to Dacia.

The length of the bridge was 1,097.5 meters and about 1,000 years ago was the longest bridge ever built in the world. Bridge was designed by the greatest architect of that time – Apolodor from Damascus.

The bridge was most likely destroyed on the orders of Emperor Aurelian (270-275), when the Romans, due to the attack of the Varvarian tribes, had to leave the then province of Dacia.
