Give it Time – 54

Mike sat on the balcony with Emily.   It was dark and quiet.  They sipped their Guinness.  He wanted to say something but didn’t know what.

He didn’t disagree with her assessment.  Mike remembered when he first came to the firm he rarely got out before 7 pm, although his hours were 9 to 5.   He spent many weekends working on cases.

Yes, a lot of the work could have been done during working hours, for there was rarely that kind of sudden pressure.

The Law Firm was old, well run,  last minute cases were almost never taken.  The reason for the long days and lost weekends, was, he realised, as Emily had defined.  The Seniors just wanted to show power.

Why hadn’t he realised it?

He looked over at her, wanting to say something in that vein, but didn’t. Instead he spoke something deeper.
