Gargoyles in Paisley Abbey, Scotland

The Paisley Abbey in Scotland was built in the 12th century. The medieval site is important to the story – it is said that the Scottish national hero Sir William Wallace also studied here. But the details of the latest abbey’s architecture are becoming more and more attracting the science fiction fans.

In 1991, a long-awaited restoration has begun in the abbey. Twelve of the thirteen Gargoyles were so badly damaged by rainwater in the abbey that they had to be removed. The work was carried out by the Edinburgh Stone Company, which replaced statues with newer models. One of the new Gargoyles is truly exclusive and unique.

This corresponds to a medieval tradition, according to which there cannot be two identical Gargoyles. However, one Gargoyle, located on Abbey in Scotland, does not have any of the own levels in all over the world. A stone creature resembles the life of Xenomorph created by H. Giger, who later became the character of the famous “Alien” franchise. As these films were extremely popular in the 1980s and 1990s, it’s likely that one of the workers found inspiration in them.
