I planned and worried, but I need not, for I never saw ‘Sherry’, my Dad’s new wife, again after that morning.
I know Dad was upset, I think he cried, but I pretended I didn’t see. I was a kid, right?
I didn’t know what was happening, he wasn’t talking. I let it go. After a few days, I asked Dad about Sherry. Acting brave, he told me she had left him, then raced out of the room.
I had to stifle a smile.
Now I had Dad all to myself.
I would live with him until it was time for me to go away to college, just over a year from today. I’d be the centre of his life, get everything I want.
My mother could have Brad and her baby, my Dad could have me until I left.
