 Pity

Here is a group of people.  You look at them as if they are potting soil.  You assume they can’t do better. They think you respect them.

There is nothing they can do to bother you because you see them as a bunch of piglets rutting.   You keep to yourself, and they think you are shy.

They try to provoke and you don’t respond.  

They think you are open minded, or easy or whatever term is used.  

In truth you assume that if they had some kind of home training or sophistication, education or decency, they wouldn’t behave this way.

Far from ‘accepting’  their behaviour as ‘normal’, your emotion is a border of pity and, of course, contempt.
