Since 1776 America has been ‘at peace’ for only 21 years of its existence.

After the ‘Revolutionary War’  America was at war with various Indian Tribes until 1796 -97 when there was no conflicts.

From 1798 to 1806 it was involved in the 1st Barbary War.  

Between 1807 and 1809 there were no major wars.

Then the United States invaded Florida which was controlled by the Spanish.  This was followed by wars with Native groups.

The War of 1812 ended in 1815 and was followed by other wars until 1826.

There was no major  military involvement until 1827 when there was a brief war with the Native Americas which ended and the United States was not at war between 1828 and 1830.

From 1831 until 1846 the United States fought wars with the native Americans then included Mexico in this conflict until 1849 when it returned to warring with Native Americans.

This continued until 1861 when besides having wars with various tribes, it warred with itself until 1865.

Once the Civil War was over America returned to wars with Native Americans until 1874 when Mexico was again an enemy.

The War with Mexico continued 1896 with constant invasions.  

There was no war in 1897.

In 1898 the Spanish American War began which became a war with the Philippines until 1913.

In 1914 there were incursions into Mexico and Central America which continued into 1917-1918 when America joined the first World War.

In 1919 America fought it’s ‘Banana Wars’ until 1934.

There were no wars between 1935 – 1940.

America entered WWII in 1941 until 1945.

It then returned, in 1946 – 1947 to the Philippines and invaded South Korea.

In 1948- 1949 America fought with Chinese Nationalists against the Communists.

From 1950 to 1953 there was the Korean War, followed in 1954 with an incursion into Guatemala.

From 1955 until 1975 the United States was involved in Vietnam.

There was no major war from 1976 until 1978.

In 1979 the United States covertly entered Afghanistan.  During the following nine years (1988) of this operation there were conflicts in Nicaragua, Lebanon, Grenada, the Persia Gulf and Panama.  The involvement in Panama continued until 1990.

In 1990 – 1991 came the first Gulf War.  America was involved in Irag from 1992 to 1996.

There was a break in 1997 and a resumption in 1998 into 1999.

There was no major war in 2000.

In 2001 the ‘War on Terror’ began and has continued from Afghanistan to Iraq to Somalia to Syria to Yemen.

The United States has always been at war or preparing for one.
