Desireen was so stunned, so hurt, by what she heard, she had to run out of the house, stand by the dying tree, as the tears poured down her face.
The stray thoughts, the silly beliefs, the childish impressions were true. Her parents didn’t care about her.
They cared about her brothers, Danny and Clive. They cared about money. They wanted her to go into slavery in America and send her salary home.
If she objected, refused to go, they’d beat her, or throw her out.
