Cutting the Cords – 16

Jeff came to his father’s wedding with a boy friend.

This devastated Steve, the bride’s son.   Although he liked Steve, Herbert considered this a very good thing.  It would prove to Steve who and what Jeff was.  It would display how Jeff treated the people in his life who cared about him.

The connection between Steve and Jeff had been the only discomforting element in Herbert’s purview.   Steve was a good son, close to his mother.  If Steve was involved with Jeff, that would keep Jeff in the circle.

As Herbert did not want his life to be destroyed by his son, it was a blessing that in attempting to hurt Steve and embarrass Herbert, he succeeded in sinking is own ship.
