She was washing the dishes. She had homework to do, but had to finish her chores. Her mother and step father were talking in the other room, while her younger half brothers played outside.
Desireen was seventeen years old. It was just now, she realised her parents cared about her brothers, not her.
It wasn’t a shocking revelation, and that is what stunned her.
She stood frozen a moment until her step father called;
“Des, bring the broom and come sweep this mess…”
She shut the pipe, got the broom, went in, and her father showed her the dirt one of her half brothers had tracked in.
She swept it up.
