Moatsu festival is an eagerly awaited festival in the beautiful Eastern state of Nagaland in India. Moatsu Mong festival is a major festival of the Ao tribe of Nagaland and the entire state comes alive during the vibrant festivities. It is celebrated during May and the main festivities are held at Mokokchung district villages.
The festival is celebrated to seek the blessings of God and is a time of merry making for Ao tribe. The preparations begin much in advance as the pigs and fowls are fed generously to make them fat for the feast. Large quantities of rice beer are brewed. Tribal people sing eulogies to commemorate their heroes. A learned person of the tribe makes forecast about the good & bad days for the village. Though it is a local festival but people from far and wide come to witness the festival which portrays Nagaland’s culture at its best.
