Another error that is made, (again using a supermarket as the example) is when a new section of the business is opened.
In this case, it was a ‘Deli Counter’.
A number of items were behind this counter. People wanted the items but as the cashier was often absent, people would buy the items from other businesses. This is because as all items from the Deli counter had to be paid for at that Cashier.
Her absence meant nothing at the Deli counter could be purchased.
No one, not even the gang of ‘Managers’ who stayed at the front desk, could move to that cash register.
Hence hundreds of dollars of business was lost because the cashier was not at her post.
Planning for a new section is not simply a matter of interior design.
Planning is essential in any business.
Most business deal with the decoration before the substance. The idea of hiring a ‘floater’ is beyond most of them.
