My first job was at Kinkos Copy Shop

I got my first job at 16 years old.  I was hired to work at Kinkos copy shop in Westwood Blvd in Los Angeles. I just did a Google search, and the store is still there 30 years later.  When these copy machines first came out, the Xerox company didn’t want the customers to do self service, because the paper kept getting stuck in the machine.  Every 5 minutes or so, the machine would get stuck, or run out of ink, or a paper would jam up somewhere. So we high school students were the hired help. I used my time to sing.  And the noise of the copy machine covered my voice.  I think  No one told me that they didn’t like my singing, so I kept on doing it.

I worked there twice a week in the afternoons and it wasn’t a bad job.  Just a bit boring.  Then I had to answer the phone.  Usually the customers asked for the opening hours.  I don’t remember what the hourly rate was, but it was enough for pocket money. And I got to put it on my resume.
