Loretta Young was an American moviestar and celebrity from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. I was charmed by the great division in strong tonal planes of the reference pictures. Lots of tonal differences, subtle and sudden. Next to this I found some strong lines along her chin and hair line, creating a powerful focal point on the face. It’s not really cubistic although everybody seems to associate it with cubism. I would call it a kind of atmospheric cubism, because it has nothing to do with the multi-perspectivism like Picasso and Braque propagated.
