It’s one of those surprising things that you didn’t expect to see but are so glad you did.
In Lake Charles, Louisiana, I had just visited the Mardi Gras Museum of Imperial Calcasieu which is fantastic. The six-room museum has the world’s largest Mardi Gras costume display. I plan to write about that later.
But as we were leaving the Mardi Gras Museum, curator David Faulk mentioned that the facility also is hosting an arts show. We walked down the hall and enjoyed seeing the work of talented artist Jonathan Moore.
I particularly liked trying to identify the silver screen legends in Moore’s art work. See how many you recognize.
A brochure with the show notes that Moore has been a professional artist for more than 15 years. He also does volunteer work for clients and charitable assignments for schools and businesses.
“Art has always been Jonathan’s passion,” the brochure says. “Not only does he make and teach art, he continues to be a student of art.”
It is his hope, the brochure said, “that all will connect with his work and imagine the joy and excitement he felt in creating it.”
I certainly connected with his work and would encourage others to visit before the exhibit ends on Nov. 22. The facility is the Central School Arts & Humanities Center at 809 Kirby Street in Lake Charles.
