Historic Photo of Paul Smith’s College in the Adirondacks

Here at Paul Smith’s College in the Northeastern Adirondacks there is a campus where they now teach Forestry, Hotelery and many other fields.  It used to be a large, famous Adirondack resort run by Apollus Paul Smith in the late 1859. It was the first and largest resort in the Adirondacks. Presidents such as Roosevelt, Cleveland and Coolige,  P.T. Barnum even stayed there and visited the VIC area where they named a trail after him.  It started small as a 17 room inn with no amenities such as indoor bathrooms or bellboys etc. It grew to a huge resort of 250+ rooms with electricity, bathrooms, an elevator, stables, bowling alley and casino. It even had a spur of the railroad running to it. It had a large fire like many of the famous Hotels in the Adirondacks and later was made into a nice college that has grown and grown.  Here you can see guests of the Paul Smiths Hotel arriving or leaving on the Paul Smith’s stagecoach. The coach is still kept here at Paul Smiths College on display.
