Every year from way back when my hometown New York City has had an Easter Parade. I never attended because I much preferred watching Fred Astaire and Judy Garland in the movie “Easter Parade” which showed people in the real parade. When I was old enough to take a stroll in the parade I was usually the one that was making the Easter dinner. However, it is traditional for some people to join the parade every year.
This year the Easter Parade begins on Easter Sunday, April 04, 2021 people will put on their new spring clothes and best looking Easter bonnets and take to the streets of Manhattan. Those who participate stroll along Fifth Avenue from 49th Street to 57th Street. The best place to views the parade is around St. Patrick’s Cathedral and it runs from 10 AM to 4 PM.
This is not a completely organized event. These streets are closed to traffic and folks just wander about wearing their best clothes and best Easter smiles. There is also a chance for visitors to see pets all decked out in their Easter best. Just don’t expect too much there are no balloons, floats or marching bands just people feeling very grand. The parade viewer can get to see period costumes as well and of course the latest fashion trends.
The more I remember the more I wish I had taken at least one Easter and participated in the parade. Perhaps if I ever visit NYC again I just might plan on doing that.
It sounds like fun. I dont think we have anything in my area. I live in a suburb.
