My desktop is 10 years old so in terms of human age it is nearing a hundred years old already. The CMOS battery has been replaced 4 times and the system disk had crashed several times. That is how the old computer behaves as if one time or another a part would get broken.
The most recent problem it gave me was the erratic behavior in booting. Fortunately there was a message to run the CHKDSK program. It will check the hard disk for possible surface errors. That corrected the problem.

I am sorry that you are having trouble with your desktop. I prefer a desktop to a laptop any day.
