Everybody knew that the Miami Dolphins were rebuilding last season. Plus, people expected for the Dolphins to have the worst record in the NFL last season. However, Miami improved so much that a 5-11 record was viewed as optimistic. This season is the one fans are looking forward to because Miami loaded up with eleven picks in the NFL Draft. Let’s take a look at who they picked.
Round 1, Pick 5: Tua Tagovailoa – QB – Alabama (6’0″, 217 lbs). Tagovailoa would have been the #1 pick, but dropped to #5 due to leg injuries that ended his season early. He landed in a good spot because he will be given the time to be fully healed before taking over at quarterback.
Round 1, Pick 18: Austin Jackson – T – USC (6’5″, 322 lbs). Jackson will compete for playing time at the offensive tackle position.
Round 1, Pick 30: Noah Igbinoghene – CB – Auburn (5’10”, 198 lbs). Igbinoghene adds even more depth to one of the best secondaries in the NFL. He could also see some time as a kick returner as well.
Round 2, Pick 7: Robert Hunt – T – Louisiana-Lafayette (6’5″, 323 lbs). Hunt adds depth to the offensive line because he played at guard and at tackle in college.
Round 2, Pick 24: Raekown Davis – DT – Alabama (6’6″, 311 lbs). Davis has the potential to become a starter along the interior of the defensive line of the Dolphins.
Round 3, Pick 6: Brandon Jones – S – Texas (5’11”, 198 lbs). Jones has the versatility to play at either safety spot.
Round 4, Pick 5: Solomon Kindley – G – Georgia (6’3″, 337 lbs). Kindley adds depth to the interior of the offensive line. He is capable to play at either guard position.
Round 5, Pick 9: Jason Stowbridge – DE – North Carolina (6’4″, 275 lbs). Stowbridge adds depth at the defensive end position.
Round 5, Pick 19: Curtis Weaver – DE – Boise State (6’2″, 265 lbs). Weaver is a pressure rusher that piled up 13.5 sacks last season.
Round 6, Pick 6: Blake Ferguson – LS – LSU (6’3″, 229 lbs). Ferguson will compete to become the Dolphins long snapper this season.
Round 7, Pick 32: Malcolm Perry – WR – Navy (5’9″, 186 lbs). Out of necessity, Perry played at quarterback, running back, and wide receiver during his college career. His biggest contribution to the team will be if the Dolphins add some option plays to their offense.
Grade: The Dolphins really had a good draft because all 11 picks have a legitimate chance to make this squad. I give them an A-.
