If you picked all of the road teams to win today, then you were right. All of the road teams in Saturday’s tripleheader won handily in the Belarus Premier League.
FC Minsk went on the road to defeat FC Slavia Mozyr 3-1 in the first match. Minsk scored first in the 30th minute when Rman Gribovsky kicked in a deflected shot. Minsk did not let their foot off of the gas and scored immediately one minute after halftime when some bad possession by Slavia defenders led to a counterattacking goal by Yaroslav Yarotskiy.
Things got sort of tight late when Slavia’s Vladislav Zhuk nuked a laser shot into the net at the 79th minute to make the score 2-1. However, FC Minsk found their counterattacking game again and took a stolen pass from their own end and scored two passes and three minutes later to go up 3-1. The last goal was scored by Artisem Vasilyeu (Say these names three times real fast!). With the victory, FC Minsk jumps up to a five-way tie for fifth place, while Slavia moves down to a three-way tie for 12th place.
BATE Borisov defeated Gorodeya Minsk Reg 2-0 in Minsk. This match was back-and-forth and was pretty close all of the way. The game was scoreless at halftime, but a key substitution opened the match up for BATE. Stanislau Dragun was substituted into game at the 73rd minute and scored seconds later off of a deflection to give BATE Borisov the lead.
BATE was able to close the game out with an extra time goal by Anton Saroka. Gorodeya had all of their players up in a last-ditch effort to tie the match, but BATE countered for the second goal. BATE is back in the thick of things; the victory puts them in a four-way tie for first place. Gorodeya is only a point behind BATE, but are now in a five-way tie for fifth place.
In the final match of the day, FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk defeated the defending Belarus Premier League champs Dinamo Brest 2-0 in Brest. Early pressure from Shakhtyor led to a Brest own goal in the 28th minute. Shakhtyor added to the lead in the 67th minute with an easy poach from Vitali Lisakovich. Both teams remain at the lower end of the table in the Belarus Premier League. Shakhtyor will look to duplicate this feat on Wednesday as these two teams will play again on Wednesday in the second leg of the Belarus Cup semifinal. Dinamo Brest won the first leg 2-0.
