Sampaguita is the national flower of the Philippines. It is a small white flower, as can be seen in the photo, but it can give the rose a run for its money. The scent of the sampaguita is like a perfume or an expensive cologne. When the sampaguita is made into a lei and hung by the neck, the wearer smells good like wearing a perfume.
The national flower is usually made into a lei that is sold in the streets. It is a tradition to hang it inside the car to give the atmosphere a pleasant scent. For events particularly awarding rites, expect the leis of sampaguita to be hung on the neck of the awardee. That is how our national flower gets into events and happenings.
