The flower named anemone from a Greek word for a local flower they called “windflower.” In Greek mythology, the anemone sprang up from Aphrodite’s tears when she mourned pitifully at the death of her Adonis. The Anemone was thought to bring good luck and protection against evil. According to legend, when the anemone closes its petals, it’s a sure signal that rain is approaching. In the Victorian flower, language, anemone flowers also indicate fragility. In both Christianity and Greek mythology, the red variety of anemone symbolizes Adonis’ death or forsaken love. While she was crying, Adonis bled on the anemones that sprang up from her tears and stained them bright red.
